Songs My Ex Ruined

It's a new podcast from me to you

Guess who's back with a new podcast? This moi! Well, myself and Melissa Locker, whose work you may have read in Time, Vogue, Vanity Fair, and Elle — or perhaps you subscribe to her newsletter, Pod People. We have had many, many, many conversations about songs men have ruined for us and decided that it was surely a podcast.

And that's how Songs My Ex Ruined (available everywhere you listen to podcasts) came to be. Our guest on the pilot episode is Avery Trufleman, whose voice you might know from her stints on 99% Invisible, The Cut podcast, or Articles of Interest (the former is back for its second season now). She tells the story of a college boyfriend who left quite a stamp on the song "Yet Again" by Grizzly Bear and the chance encounter with the band's lead singer some years later that made a mark of its own.

Future episodes include the comedian Gianmarco Soresi, who was just on James Corden doing a set and who will never listen to a certain Spice Girls song again; musician Naomi Cowan, who is reggae royalty and who had a traumatic incident with an Usher song; and Nabil Ayers, the U.S. president of the Beggar's Group and author of My Life in the Sunshine, who had a moment of self-realization after a breakup when the Human League hit him with a song.

Anyway, the episodes are tightly at or under 30 minutes each with none of that annoying intro filler. We cut straight to the question: Which song did an ex ruin for you? And then, we get all the details of the story. And frequently, we tell some stories of our own because there are a lot of exes who've ruined a lot of songs in the world.
